THE NORMAL RECORD. Social. y. w, c. (K, The Christian Association held a meeting on the fifteenth instant, in which they elected the Misses Alice Wilkenson, Cora Berry and Olive Nikirk delegates to the conference at Capitola, which convenes on May the sixteenth. The purpose of this conference is to bring all the colleges and schools of higher education on the Pacific Coast into closer relationship and to devise means for deepening the social life of the same. Our Y. W. C. A. desires to send as many delegates to enjoy the benefits of this conference as possible. To meet their expenses a May Day lunch on the campus is planned in which the hearty cooperation of all the students and their friends is asked. The Debating Societies. At the last regular meetings in the first half of the term, the debating societies elected new officers. Under their directions we expect to see a steady growth of these organizations. The Y. W. N. D. S. officers are: President, Ethel Saxon; Vice-President, Eva Darst; Secretary, Mary Davidson; Treasurer, Etta Horton ; Marshal, Margaret Gallagher ; Critics, Ada Wolcott and Ina Hedger. The young men elected the following: President, Albert Kermode ; Vice-President, Ernest Rutherford ; Secretary, Burton Crow- der; Treasurer, Fred Goulden; Marshal, Clarence Moore ; Critics, Dan Ormsbee and Abuer Smith. The Associated Students hold their regular meetings the first Wednesday of each month During the April session the president was presented with a gavel. Mr. George Hosier, in a few well chosen words, hauded to the chairman a finely engraved oaken mallet. The surprised look of President Davis caused the meeting to become disorderly, and the new gavel was thoroughly initiated. Alumni. Miss Isabel. Mansfield of the class of 1899 is teaching at Cascade, Tehama cjunty. James Matlock of the class of 1900 is teaching at Elena, Shasta county. Miss Minnie Cain and Miss Ethel Bryan visited the.Normal several days this month. Miss Maud Stanford of the class of 1900, is teaching in Shasta county. Miss Georgie Carden,who was given a leave of absence for ten weeks, has returned to her position as teacher of mathematics in the Normal. She reports having had a very delightful time while visiting in Honolulu, in which place she remained four weeks. . Miss Ella Hand, who is teaching at Center- ville, accompanied by a number of her pupils visited the training school. Miss Bessie Coady is teaching at the Cedar Grove School, Tehama county. Mr. Talcott, who is teaching near German- town, Glenn county, spent last Saturday and Sunday in Chico. Miss Sadie Gaffney, of the class of 1900, who has been teaching at Manton, Tehama county, has returned to her home in San Francisco. Mr. John Tibbessart of theo lass of 1901, is teaching at the Lincoln school, Glenn county. Miss Dixie Hendricks, of the class of 1891, has been traveling in the East for the past year. She has visited the following places: Buffalo, Yellowstone Park, Lake Champlain, Montreal, Boston, Mew York, along the Jersey Coast, and Philadelphia. At present-she is in Washington where she will visit during the summer. Mr. Robert Simons, of the class of '00, has taken the position of John D. Kuster as principal of the Marysville Grammar School. Mr. Kuster has accepted the position of book- booker with a firm at that place. On account of illness Miss Margaret Matthews had to give up her school at Tehama and Miss Ella Campbell has accented the position. Miss Mamie Bennett of "the class of 1897 was recently married to Frank Entler of Chico.
