The historic bridge was opened in 1856 as the first suspension bridge west of the Mississippi River during Gold Rush days - across the Middle Fork of the Feather River at Bidwell's Bar . With the filling of Lake Oroville after the construction of Oroville Dam , the filling of Lake Oroville after the construction of Oroville Dam , the old bridge was disassembled , moved , and put back together at Bidwell Canyon on Lake Oroville . Dedicatory exercise were held in July 1977 to mark its removal to the new location .
Description
Photograph shows suspension bridge , Bidwell Bar , erected and opened for travel in 1856 . It was removed from this site in 1965 to be relocated on new site in state park , 4 miles from Oroville .
